NEWTOWN TITANS AND ACTIVE OPPS SPORTS COACHING ANNOUNCE EASTER BASKETBALL CAMP
On Saturday, 29th March, there will be a one day basketball camp hosted by the Newtown Titans basketball club at the Flash leisure centre in Welshpool at a price of £5. The fun day will be running from 11am-3pm and is available to 13-18 year olds only. The fee can be paid on the day and for more information contact Guy Evans here.

On Thursday, November 1st, a one day basketball camp was hosted by Powys Sports Development at Maldwyn Leisure Centre in Newtown. Newtown Titans founder and British Universities' champion Guy Evans coached the fun day which was designed to progress on the camps held in Welshpool during the summer holidays. "I was pleased with how well the players picked up new skills, and they even began to work together towards the end of the session to solve problems," Evans said. "Hopefully we can keep these events going and have more youngsters playing the game."

This month will see the qualification of new basketball coaches in Mid Wales, thanks to a course organised by Powys Sports Development in Newtown which is the first in the area. The Newtown Titans basketball club have also secured a community chest grant which has allowed them to pay the entire cost for four previously unqualified coaches. Titans' Head Coach and Level 2 coach Guy Evans said: "This is fantastic news for basketball in the area as it means that for the first time there will be a variety of people in Mid Wales able to teach the sport successfully in schools and clubs. I am particularly pleased at being able to send some of our Sixth Form players onto the course which will help in enhancing their CV's and will perhaps open up some opportunities for them in the future." In related news, Evans is working towards his Level 3 (or Senior coach) qualification this year as player-coach of the Worcester Wolves II national league side.
